When it comes to advice, mom always knows best! In the spirit of Mother’s Day, these celebrity moms and their kids share the best pieces of wisdom they’ve received and continue to pass on.

Bringing your partner to family gatherings so that everyone can get to know each other can be as exciting as it is nerve-racking. You want your family to love your partner as much as you do and for everything to go smoothly. To help make the introduction a success, here are six tips to keep in mind.

MICHELLE OBAMA

Being the first lady of the United States is no easy job, but neither is being a mother. Michelle Obama has always championed women throughout her career and continues to uplift and support her daughters Sasha and Malia. She shared a piece of advice she would give her younger self: “We’re sometimes taught in our societies that we have to compete and we have to hold each other back in order for one of us to succeed. That is not true. We need each other. And all over the world, we have to be a team of women and girls who love each other and value each other and cherish one another. Because if we don’t cherish each other, no one else will.”

VICTORIA BECKHAM

She’s not just Posh Spice, she’s a designer, entrepreneur and – most admirably – a mother of four. With an impressive CV and years in the entertainment industry, it’s no wonder she wants to share all the lessons she’s learnt with her daughter Harper. She shared to Instagram: “Teach your daughters to worry less about fitting into glass slippers and more about shattering glass ceilings.” This is a testament that women can do it all!

JADA PINKETT SMITH

With the rise of her show Red Table Talk, Jada Pinkett Smith has been known to drop some major pieces of wisdom. One piece of advice she echoed to her daughter, Willow Smith, on an episode was: “It’s a paradox. Being a wife and mother is probably one of the most extraordinary experiences and the most fulfilling experiences in my life, but at the same time, it has been very difficult to balance being able to do the things I want to do and have the freedoms I want to have.” She continued, “I’m constantly, every day trying to figure out that balance… At the end of the day, the one thing I always want to tell you Willow is: ‘Life is a journey. Communication creates partnerships. We are here to assist you… You always have to remember to take care of you, first and foremost.’”

Cindy Crawford made her name walking some of the most prestigious catwalks. It’s no surprise her daughter Kaia Gerber has followed in her footsteps. However, Crawford has always carried one piece of advice with her, and she’s passed it on to her daughter: “My mom always just told me to stay true to myself and be myself, and I think people don’t remind girls of that enough.” This piece of advice really drives home the idea that authenticity always wins!
