1. KNOTLESS BRAIDS 

These have been growing in popularity through 2021, and they are nowhere near losing momentum. Although they take longer to install and are more expensive than traditional braids due to the technique used, they are worth every minute and dime. Some of the benefits of knotless braids include no pain, a weightless feeling, and a natural look. Our take is that these will continue to trend throughout 2022, and probably become the only preferred way of installing braids in the future.

2. WATER CURL WIGS
Curly wigs have become popular over the past few months. The most popular are water curl styles, which can be straightened for a sleek look or brushed out for volume. The curl pattern on these wigs is tight waves and loose curls that make the hair full and soft. While the majority prefer long manes, some prefer short lengths that appear more natural. Maintain your curls with a spritz of water mixed with a leave-in conditioner. Apply a serum for a healthy shine.

3. LARGE GODDESS BOX BRAIDS
Box braids, for a couple of years now, have been the go-to protective hairstyle. The most recent twist to these popular braids is bigger blocks or partings and curled ends. Getting these done requires little time, and the tension and weight on the scalp are minimal too. To make these last, ask your stylist to plait small cornrows at the base before attaching the hairpiece for the actual braid. Base your scalp regularly and use edge taming gel to keep those edges in check.

4. EXPENSIVE BRUNETTE
Spotted on celebrities such as Hailey Bieber, this exclusive hair colour is quickly picking up speed on the trends list. This shade of brunette is not just about one colour throughout the strands; it blends many similar hues using different techniques such as balayage, highlighting and sombre that make the hair appear rich and lustrous. “Expensive brunette is all about giving deeper hair energy, dimension, and detail,” says celebrity hairstylist Tom Smith for Glamour. So, if you want to step into the year oozing expensive, then this one is for you.

5. POP SMOKE BRAIDS 

The great thing about this style is that it can be rocked by anyone, women, men and even children. Normally referred to as tribal braids, these were commonly thinner and adorned with beads. After the passing of American rapper, Pop Smoke, who used to wear his braids thicker, these became popular and are now known as Pop Smoke Braids. Depending on who is wearing them, these can still be accessorised in several ways. The simplicity and protective nature of the style make them suitable for any season.HAIRCARE FOR ANY TRENDY HAIRSTYLE:

  • Wash and treat your hair regularly. Hairstyles are hardly the primary cause of hair or scalp issues, but they instead exacerbate a problem that already exists.
  • Tension on the scalp is not good; repeatedly this will eventually cause traction alopecia – which is an even bigger problem to deal with.
  • Take breaks in between hairstyles to give your hair and scalp a breather
